Mastering the Craft: Your First Five Pages

Submitted

Learn what agents and publishers are looking for in the first five pages of your manuscript during the Marco Island Writers meeting on August 13. For self-published authors, understanding these concepts could tighten your story and increase your sales. Have a fiction WIP (Work in Progress)? Print off your first five pages. Not working on any fiction right now? Bring in a completed book (yours or your favorite author’s), we can dissect it to see if it follows the guidelines.

Writers of all skill levels are invited. Whether your first five pages are scribbled on a napkin or in a hard cover by one of the Big Five Publishers, there is something here to learn.

The meeting for August and September will be at the Bombay Book Den in the Bombay Liquor store at 695 Bald Eagle Drive. Doors open at 5:30 PM with the meeting running from 6-8 PM. From 7:30-8:00, we will do Flash Fiction, the prompt being emailed on Monday, Aug. 11. For more information, contact Joanne Tailele, president of Marco Island Writers at marcoislandwritersinc@gmail.com, at 239-784-2637 or the website at www.marcoislandwriters.com.
