A total of $47,271,537 was allocated to beach and inlet projects statewide in the 2014-15 Florida Budget, the General Appropriations Act (HB 5001). That included $1,621,672 for Collier County and $233,254 for the South Marco Island beach renourishment.
Commissioner Donna Fiala attributes the increased amount of state monies awarded coastal projects to strong support and advocacy statewide. “We requested increased funding; the legislators delivered,” said Fiala.
