CEO, Physicians Regional-Collier Blvd
One the most common reasons for a visit to our Emergency Room at Physicians Regional-Collier Boulevard is a very specific yet unexpected event—one that can happen to anyone at anytime: falling.
According to the National Safety Council, falls are the cause of 8.9 million trips to emergency rooms in the United States each year. Furthermore, older adults are four times more likely to die as a result of a fall.
The most common “fall locations” are stairs, ramps, cluttered hallways, any uneven surface, and wet and/or slippery areas such as bathroom tile, tubs or showers.
As those of us who “fall” never receive advance warning, it’s important we know exactly where to go for treatment—as well as the type of care we might need and/or expect.
As the CEO of Physicians Regional-Collier Boulevard, I also have a responsibility to inform the public of the care available right here in the neighborhood. In the event of a fall-related injury, chances are you will find yourself in need of orthopedic care.
In broad terms, orthopedics addresses discomfort from bone pain and/or joint pain. However, orthopedic care encompasses a wide variety of conditions including, but not limited to, many ailments often associated with falling down.
Until this year, those on Marco Island and East Naples typically had to travel north to our Pine Ridge facility for comprehensive orthopedic care. However, as your neighborhood’s primary health care facility, we knew this had to change.
Our newly enhanced orthopedic department at Physicians Regional-Collier Boulevard has been recognized by multiple accrediting bodies, and our specialists use the most advanced treatments and technology available.
According to Dr. Ronaldo Caneiro, “Orthopedic care is an essential part of any hospital, not just because of the incidence of trauma that comes through the Emergency Room, but also due to conditions that are treated electively—those treatments that make life more pleasant for patients who suffer from chronic conditions.”
Physicians Regional-Collier Boulevard is also very proud of the recent additions of Aldo R. Beretta, M.D. and Scott M. Greenberg, D.O. to our orthopedic team.
“There are a number of different situations that warrant orthopedic care,” states Greenberg. “These include trauma, degenerative bone and joint disease, bone and soft tissue oncology, developmental/pediatric and congenital musculoskeletal disorders as well as sports and athletic injuries.”
Those who have suffered from any of the above conditions understand—all too well—the importance of convenient, quality orthopedic care.
Dr. Greenberg is also a board certified orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery.
With over 24 years of experience in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Beretta is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in spine surgery.
To Dr. Beretta, “Orthopedic care is the maintenance of independence. Restoring mobility is the number one goal allowing people to remain at home and independent.”
Plus, an orthopedic injury can quickly go beyond “uncomfortable” to “debilitating”—a situation that can greatly limit range of motion and daily activities.
There are only a few hospitals in the U.S. that contain the breadth of talent seen at the Orthopedic Department of Physician Regional.
Whether it’s a condition resulting from something as unexpected as a fall—or another joint, nerve or bone issue—you’ll be happy to know that Physicians Regional has invested in providing you the very best orthopedic care available.
And now, it’s practically right up the street from where you live.
