Marco Island Writers will host its Second Annual AuthorFest at the Marco Lutheran Church at 525 N. Collier Blvd. on Saturday, March 8 from 12-4 PM. More than 40 local authors from Fort Myers to Marco Island will be on hand to sell their books, sign autographs and talk about their lives as authors. The featured speaker, Suzi Weinert, author of “The Garage Sale Stalker,” will speak at 2 PM. “Stalker” was awarded the “Best Made-for-TV Book” in 2013. The event is free to the public. There is a huge selection of books ranging from non-fiction and cooking to sci-fi and mysteries.
On March 12 at the Marco Island Writers regular monthly meeting, also held at the Marco Lutheran Church, four-time published author Holly Robinson will talk about her newest book soon to be released, “Beach Plum Island,” and her experiences of moving from a self-published author to a traditional author with multiple book deals by Penguin Books. Robinson is a journalist, a celebrity ghost writer and author. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Clark University and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Doors open for the meeting at 5:30 PM. First time visitors are always free. Writers of all skill levels are invited to attend. Marco Island Writers is also sponsoring a writing contest with the Friends of the Library (Marco Island Branch). Submit a poem, short story or essay to email@example.com, stating what made you come to Marco, what keeps you here or why you love it. A team of writers from the group will select six final entries to be read by each author at the event on Tuesday, April 15, at 5:30 PM at the Marco library. Entries can be serious or humorous — share your love of Marco. Members and family of MIW are ineligible to participate. This is for the general public. No previous writing experience needed.
