Happy New Year everyone, and welcome back to all of our seasonal residents! Your American Cancer Society right here on Marco Island is so excited about the events we have planned for 2014, and we wanted to be sure you “save the dates” before you get too busy.
Jan. 19: The American Cancer Society and the Island Country Club Charitable Foundation will partner to run their annual golf tournament, and kick-off our fundraising year with a fun event that will end with a Margaritaville dinner, prizes and a silent auction. There is a registration form in this edition of the paper.
Feb. 15: The Imagination Ball presented by BMO Harris Bank will be held at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort and Spa to benefit all American Cancer Society Research and Programs. This year, we will honor John and Corrie Grado for their years of support and service to our mission. In addition to BMO Harris Bank, we would also like to recognize Physicians Regional, First National Bank of the Gulf Coast and Classic Transportation for committing as sponsors this year. “Give your heart to finding a cure” and join us for dinner, dancing and auctions at what is sure to be the event of the season.
March 22: The Fourth Annual Shoot Down Kids Cancer event will be held at Port of the Islands Gun Club to benefit Pediatric Cancer Research. Last year was a sellout as men, women and teens gathered to practice their hand-eye coordination on the clay pigeon course. Prizes are awarded to the winning teams, and the contest is followed by lunch and a silent and live auction.
April 12-13: Relay For Life will be held at Mackle Park to benefit all American Cancer Society Research and Programs. This year’s theme is “A World of Hope”, and each team has selected a country to use for inspiration as they fundraise. There are many ways to participate in Relay For Life, and forming a team is easy. Our next team party is Jan. 14 at the Marco Island Fire Station at 5:30 PM. If you are interested in joining us as an individual, team or even as a sponsor, come to the party and meet other “Relayers”. We already have one sponsor, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, and we are thrilled to have them join us this year.
April 12: Walker’s Marine Second Annual Tarpon Fishing Tournament will be held with proceeds going to brain cancer research. If you like to fish and think you can catch the illusive tarpon, then this is your event. Bring family and friends along with some strong sunscreen and enjoy a day on the water followed by awards and a barbeque.
Oct. 2014: Stay tuned for more details about the Luau Against Breast Cancer with proceeds going to breast cancer research.
We are looking forward to another outstanding year, and with your support, we will finish the fight and celebrate more birthdays. If you would like more information about any of these events or would like to volunteer, please contact Sue at the American Cancer Society at 239-642-8800, ext 3890.
