What began just six years ago has grown in popularity and become an annual signature event for Marco Island. “Little did we know when we started this festival it would continue to grow each year to be such a popular event. So far, it has subsidized the major part of charitable giving for three service clubs on the island — the same three that volunteer hundreds of hours to put the festival together — the Sunrise Rotary Club, the Noontime Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club. Each year, we’ve grown and tried to make it better. This year, we’re going all out and taking it to the next level,” said Stan Niemcyzk, the festival founder.
The 2014 Marco Island Seafood and Music Festival has an all new schedule. It will begin on Friday, March 28, at 11 AM. The internationally acclaimed, “Satisfaction-a Rolling Stones Experience” will perform opening night. Mick himself would be satisfied with the Friday line-up. The island’s own Jim Long kicks off the evening music at 5 PM, and you can get your “Satisfaction” at 7 PM.
To mix it up some on Saturday, March 29, a full musical line-up is scheduled for your enjoyment. The headliner is none other than the Fakahatchee Band. There will be Deb and the Dynamics, Hot Damn and Jim Long too. Don’t forget to wear your BEST country gear Saturday night. There will be some fun for the best country hat, boots and more. We’ll just call them our “countrified contests.”
In addition to a weekend of great music, all your favorite seafood specialties will be available: fresh fish, grouper, crab cakes, stone crab, shrimp, crawdads, chowder and more. There is a huge assortment of traditional landlubber favorites too. Beer and wine will be served to quench your thirst. More than 60 arts and crafts vendors will open Friday morning at 11 AM. A kid’s zone with bounce house, slide, rock climbing wall, trampoline and more will be available to wear off some of that energy while you enjoy the music, the food and the friends.
Through the support of festival sponsors, the Marco Island Seafood and Music Festival is able to contribute to the three philanthropic organizations on the island. In 2013, Waste Management, Physicians Regional, Seminole Casino, Mutual of Omaha Bank and Condee Cooling and Electric were major sponsors. If you would like to have a captive audience on Friday and Saturday during one of the busiest weekends of the year, call Wanda Day at 239-777-1484 for more information on how you can become a sponsor.
Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, are the new days from 11 AM to 9 PM. Admission is $8.
