Each year, thanks to the Marco Island Area Association of Realtors food for Thanksgiving which is brought to St. Matthew’s House by volunteers including realtor Bill Filbin. It’s a great way to share your blessings this holiday season. The dishes must be pre-cooked and re-heatable and can include mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, baked yams, vegetables and sweet potatoes either baked or mashed. Simply drop your dish off at the Board of Realtors office at 140 Waterway Drive between 8:00 – 11:00 on Thanksgiving morning (November 28th) and Bill will oversee getting them to the shelter.
You can contact Kandy at the MIAAOR office at 394-5616 for more details or for an aluminum tray with a cover, or you can provide your own. (Please no excess liquid in the pans-they have to be stacked for travel.) What a great way to get into the holiday spirit of giving!
Last year, Bill stacked dozens of trays in a vehicle and proceeded St. Matthew’s house. While he was working in the kitchen, somebody asked if he wanted the Governor to help him. “Sure,” said Bill laughing, thinking of course they were joking. Bill was introduced to Governor Rick Scott, who was also there donating his time to help during Thanksgiving. Bill got a quick snapshot in before going back to work.
