Lovers of pets and aperitifs be prepared! The Fifth Annual Mutts & Martinis is coming to the Esplanade on March 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The “Yappy Hour” benefits Bedtime Bundles, an all-volunteer organization that supports the basic needs of migrant children who call Collier County home.
Last year, more than 300 people and more than 100 pups participated in the event. All in all, $24,000 was raised. “We’re hoping to surpass that number this year, because every year we have surpassed the previous year’s goal,” explains Karen Saeks, Founder of Bedtime Bundles.
“This is a fast and furious kind of evening because of all of the dogs in attendance,” adds Saeks. “So bring Fido dressed to impress for the Pooch Parade.” Owners and their pups will have the chance to strut their stuff on an elevated walkway while Nick Ciletti of NBC2 News and Steve Reynolds of Island Paradise DJ Service, will act as judges, awarding numerous prizes. Dogs can win for many categories, including best costume, oldest, youngest, and best of all, the dog that looks most like its owner.
A silent auction will be held throughout the two hour event as well as a 50/50 raffle. There will also be a live auction of three separate items: Four one-day hopper passes to Disney; four 14-consecutive day passes to Sea World; and a “Dream Day with the Chicago Cubs” in Chicago. The winner of this item will receive four field seats and will get to go on the field after the game to take a photo with the players.
Bedtime Bundles has partnered with CJ’s on the Bay for the event. A $5 admission fee for the “Yappy Hour” comes with one free beverage – draught beer, house wine, soft drink or bottled water. Martinis at CJ’s will cost only $6 during the event, with $3 of that being donated to Bedtime Bundles.
Other major sponsors are Coastal Breeze News, Mutual of Omaha Bank, Marco Island Skin and Body Boutique, Marco Eagle and Hang Ten Media.
Dogs must be leashed at all times and owners must be able to contain and control their pet. Humans, however, are welcome to roam leash-free. Questions, concerns or comments may be directed to Karen at 239-398-3081 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
