Makeup Scents Makes Sense

By Julia Barnett

Lillian Mead, owner of Makeup Scents & Gifts in the Esplanade Plaza, understands her customers. With a shop full of quirky, unusual, and interesting things, as well as some hard-to-find products, she keeps customers coming back again and again.

Formerly in what was, at the time, the Prime Outlets strip mall, Makeup Scents moved to the Esplanade a year and a half ago. Lillian made the move for various reasons, and thinks it was a good decision, not only because she lives on Marco, but because most of her customers do too. And a good decision it was, as business has only gotten progressively better since moving to the Esplanade Plaza.

Makeup Scents products include one-of-kind accessories, jewelry, and all-day lip colors. Lillian also sells perfumes, and, being conscious of the economy, she sells them for a lower price than most. She even tries to accommodate requests for certain products, happy to be able to assist her customers. The walls have paintings done by Lillian herself, and the products are pops of color and bling, a hidden rainbow in the middle of the Esplanade Plaza.

An advocate and lover of animals, especially of small dogs, Lillian is most often seen with Babe (pronounced Baby), her rescued Yorkie. Babe even greets customers in the store, and gets quite a bit of love, pettings, and treats from clientele. And while Babe would appreciate an expansion as much as Lillian—more room to run around, more room to more products—it’s not in the cards quite yet for Makeup Scents.

Visitors to the plaza, restaurant diners waiting for their reservations, or trying to walk off a good meal, or coffee aficionados wandering past Starbucks, are all invited to browse around and say hello to Babe any time of day, as the store is open from 10 am to 9 pm every day.
