Congratulations Florida! It’s been five hundred years since Ponce de Leon discovered this “Flowery Land,” and the Marco Island Historical Society plans to celebrate this milestone with a party, called Viva La Marco, on March 2nd from 6-10 pm. Mark your calendars and attend.
Viva La Marco will be held outside, on the “Mound” of the Marco Island Historical Museum, beside the “ancient” Calusa dwellings, romantic lagoon and swaying palm trees. We’ve planned a fun-filled evening for your entertainment…and a step back in time.
Do the Stroll or rock and roll to the “Floribbean” music of Marco’s JRoberts and the renowned Raiford Starke Band of Little Bar fame. Sample the cuisine of some of our top restaurants, each with its own distinctive tropical flair. Strike up a conversation with a historical island figure, maybe ole Ponce himself. Say “cheese” in an old-fashioned photo booth. And don’t forget to sample our version of the “The Green Flash,” an island concoction created right here on Marco.
The festivities include a silent auction, with luxury items and unusual Island adventures, even a historical tour of Marco aboard an original Model T Ford. There’s a little something for everyone, plus a few additional surprises yet to come.
Viva La Marco tickets are $85 per person, with the monies benefiting the Historical Society. Your support and enthusiasm ensure that the wonderful programs already in existence and the legacy of this Island continue into the future. Space is limited, so don’t delay!
Tickets are available at the Museum Gift Store, 180 S. Heathwood Drive (cash, check and credit cards); First National Bank of the Gulf Coast, 690 Bald Eagle Drive; and the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce, 1102 N. Collier Boulevard (check or cash please). For more information, please call 821-9485.
