About a dozen Peoples Gas workers now heading to New York to help National Grid In a first-of-its-kind trip, a baker’s dozen TECO Peoples Gas workers are leaving for New York today to help National Grid restore natural gas service to its Long Island customers who continue to be without service in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. Crews left this morning for the two-day drive to West Hempstead, N.Y., and they are prepared to stay for nearly three weeks. CCSO To Offer ID Theft And Fraud Awareness Class

Collier County Sheriff’s Office Identity theft and fraud awareness will be the topic of the next Collier County Sheriff’s Office Minority Affairs meeting. The hourlong ID theft and fraud presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Professional Development Center, 615 Third Ave. S., Naples. The course is free and open to the public. Lt. Chad Parker of CCSO’s Financial Crimes Bureau will teach the course, which will focus on what people can do to minimize becoming a victim of identity theft. Underwriters and Donations Needed for Holiday Gift Shop for Immokalee Kids

The Guadalupe Center of Immokalee seeks businesses and individuals for underwriting and donations for its annual Holiday Gift Shop, which provides toys, gifts and clothing for more than 800 Immokalee children. Recipient families are chosen based on financial need. The typical family of four typically lives on less than $14,000 per year. Guadalupe Center President Barbara Oppenheim said that in addition to toys, gifts and clothing, corporate underwriters are needed to sponsor one night each of the five-day Holiday Gift Shop. Community Rallies For Texting While Driving Ban In Florida

After just one week, more than 500 people have signed a call to action in support of a law that would ban texting while driving in Florida. “We will build on this momentum,” Sheriff Rambosk said. “People tell me daily that they want to see a law like this, so I know the support is out there.” The Collier County Sheriff’s Office kicked off the “Stop Texting & Driving” campaign Nov. 28. Dunkin’ Donuts Launches “Community Cups” to Raise Funds and Awareness for Autism

Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s favorite all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, has partnered with Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, to collect donations from December 3-16 – just in time for the holidays. Participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurantsin Florida include Alachua, Brevard Collier, Lee, Marion, Seminole and Volusia counties. N Collier Blvd Construction Project Update

The construction project currently under way along North Collier Blvd. is the City’s North Collier Blvd Phase 4 Drainage Project. This work is to install underground conduit and piping systems along Collier Blvd. between Barfield and Buttonwood. These new drainage system pipes will connect to a newly installed outfall located on Fairlawn Ct. In conjunction with the drainage pipe installations several water and sewer line deflections have also been constructed. USPS Hosts Extended and Sunday Hours for Holiday Season

Post Offices in Naples, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres and Punta Gorda are offering extended holiday hours of operation on Saturdays and Sundays. The extended hours will be effective through Sunday, December 16. Postmasters are hoping that customers will take advantage of mailing on the weekends!  Postal customers who take advantage of this opportunity will avoid the heavy traffic on Mondays! Dismissal of Ethics Complaint against Larry Magel

The City Attorney for Marco Island, Mr. Burt Saunders, has informed me that the ethics complaint filed against me by Mr. Larry Sacher has been dismissed for lack of legal sufficiency.  I have appended the formal opinion from the State of Florida for your information and review. Joy of Giving Bike Run


Marco Riders Poker Run to benefit the Joy of Giving rolled out this morning after a filling breakfast provided by Porky’s and a blessing of the bikes courtesy of Father Tim of San Marco Catholic Church. Dozens of riders and their bikes took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy good weather, a good ride, and companionship of friends and to support a good cause.
