IT TAKES A TEAM TO RAISE A BARN DANCE

BMO helps Naples Equestrian Challenge prepare for event Employees from BMO Private Bank and BMO Harris Bank, both a part of BMO Financial Group, recently organized a volunteer team for a day dedicated to helping Naples Equestrian Challenge prepare for their 7th Annual Bootstrap Boogie Barn Dance. BMO volunteers pulled up their bootstraps and painted a cottage as well as stained railings and posts around the stables. Proceeds from the Barn Dance allow Naples Equestrian Challenge to fulfill its mission of improving the lives of children and adults with special needs through therapeutic riding and other equine-related programs. CAP Board of Governors selects Chairman, Vice Chairman

Civil Air Patrol’s Board of Governors (BoG), meeting in person for the first time since the organization’s new governance structure was introduced in August, today elected retired Air Force Maj. Gen. John Speigel as its chairman and CAP Lt. Col. Ned Lee as vice chairman. Speigel, previously the board’s vice chairman, succeeds Brig. Gen. Richard Anderson when Anderson’s term concludes in February. A BoG member since 2005, Speigel is the former director of personnel policy, deputy chief of staff for personnel, Air Force Headquarters. Marco Island Center for the Arts

The Clay Guild, an adjunct of the Marco Island Center for the Arts, is holding its second annual pottery show, called It’s a Wrap, now through December 20. More than 180 pieces of pottery, everything from hand-built to wheel-thrown tableware and accessories, are on display in the Lauritzen and Rush galleries. Update of the Vehicle Accident Damaging the Big Flag Pole

On Wednesday, November 7, the Collier Boulevard median, housing the Big Flag Pole, lighting fixtures and the Welcome to Marco Island sign was the site of a vehicle accident causing severe damage. Clarification of the accident, damage report, estimates to repair and replace, and procedures in affect, were discussed by the Big Flag Committee at a recent meeting. Volunteer mentors needed for Immokalee students

The Immokalee Foundation is looking for mentors to participate in Take Stock in Children, a statewide program that makes it possible for at-risk students in the community to reach academic and personal success. In 2001, TIF brought to Immokalee and since then, the foundation has matched volunteer mentors with qualified students from Immokalee Middle School and Immokalee High School to inspire, guide and be involved in the students’ lives. Christmas Decorating Contest Committee Plan for the 16th Annual House and Business Decorating Contest

The Christmas House, Business and Condominium Decorating Contest begins the week beginning Monday, December 10 announced Chairman, Dave Rice. Enthusiasm is building among Marco Island residents as early decorations already displayed. In 2011, the contest included over 1800 homes and 125 businesses judged. Holidays with the Swamp Boys

The “Swamp Boys” from AMIkids Big Cypress went to the Bentley Village Retirement Home to help decorate it for Christmas. They started by getting all of the boxes out of storage and then unpacked them. Not only did they put up the decorations, they worked with the seniors, helping them to join in the fun as well! Collier County Sheriff’s Office Identity theft and fraud awareness will be the topic of the next Collier County Sheriff’s Office Minority Affairs meeting. The hourlong ID theft and fraud presentation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Professional Development Center, 615 Third Ave. S., Naples. The course is free and open to the public. Underwriters and Donations Needed for Holiday Gift Shop for Immokalee Kids

The Guadalupe Center of Immokalee seeks businesses and individuals for underwriting and donations for its annual Holiday Gift Shop, which provides toys, gifts and clothing for more than 800 Immokalee children. Recipient families are chosen based on financial need. The typical family of four typically lives on less than $14,000 per year. Guadalupe Center President Barbara Oppenheim said that in addition to toys, gifts and clothing, corporate underwriters are needed to sponsor one night each of the five-day Holiday Gift Shop. Community Rallies For Texting While Driving Ban In Florida

After just one week, more than 500 people have signed a call to action in support of a law that would ban texting while driving in Florida. “We will build on this momentum,” Sheriff Rambosk said. “People tell me daily that they want to see a law like this, so I know the support is out there.” The Collier County Sheriff’s Office kicked off the “Stop Texting & Driving” campaign Nov. 28.
