Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation unveils youth development park at Boys & Girls Club of Collier County

NAPLES, Fla. (Nov. 13, 2012) – The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, through a generous donation from Jay and Patty Baker, recently unveiled a multipurpose youth sports complex in Naples at the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County. 2013 Christmas Island Style Ornament Design Contest Winner Announced

The winner of the Fifth Annual Christmas Island Style Ornament Contest was chosen recently. The judges met at the Marco Island Center for the Arts to consider all entrants which came from art classes at the Marco Island Charter Middle School under the direction of teacher, Shane Totten. The contest is part of Christmas Island Style and is co-chaired by Bette McGilvary and Barb Dasti. Marco Island Area Association of Realtors® Makes Donatation to Realtors® Relief Foundation

Gerry Rosenblum, Marco Island Area Association of Realtors® President, announced a recent donation was made by the Marco Island Area Association of Realtors® to the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) Relief Foundation for Hurricane Sandy victims. The National Association of Realtors® Relief Foundation distributes one hundred percent of all funds collected to disaster relief causes. The NAR president announced that NAR would match member’s donations up to $500,000. To date, $1,250,000 has been collected which includes NAR’s $500,000 match. New No parking Zones and Fines

Over the past year citizens living in the southern portion of the island have become increasingly concerned with safety and quality of life issues affiliated with parking in the neighborhoods. Various city Departments including the Police, Community Development and Public works worked with residents in an attempt to resolve the issues. TREASURES IN THE TRUNK

On Saturday, December 1, 2012 the San Marco Columbiettes will be having a Treasures in the Trunk fundraiser in the San Marco Parish Center parking lot. The trunk sale will be from 8am to 1pm. Vendors should be set up by 7:30am. People will have an opportunity to sell their new, used, antique, etc. from the trunk of their car. The cost is $10 for each car parking space. Special Olympics Collier County took a delegation of ten Special Olympics athletes and one Unified Partner to the 2012 State Bowling Competition in Orlando, FL on November 16-18 2012 to compete against athletes from around the State. CCSO, Community Take Stand Against Human Trafficking

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Collier County Coalition Against Human Trafficking, held an anti-human trafficking community event in Immokalee recently  at Immokalee Community Park, 321 N. 1st St. More than 450 members of the community attended the fourth annual “A Day Without Slavery” event to learn more about human trafficking and ways to identify victims of human trafficking. Deputies hope the event will open avenues of communication with the community and encourage residents to report suspected trafficking. Newest Animals A Little on the Small Side

During a visit to Naples Zoo, you can see the tallest animals in the world that stroll the plains of Africa or the giant reptiles that bask in our Florida sun. The newest arrivals, however, are a little on the small side. And they’re meant to be. They are called miniature zebus. These tiny cattle are as cute as they are small. Naples Winter Wine Festival volunteers celebrate success

Naples Winter Wine Festival volunteers and trustees of Naples Children & Education Foundation – the founding organization of the festival – recently celebrated the 2012 festival’s success. The brunch celebration took place at Waterside Shops. NCEF Trustee and Board Chair Anne Welsh McNulty told the group that 347 volunteers spent 3,886 hours working on the 2012 festival, which raised $12.2 million for underprivileged and at-risk children. Volunteer hours increased by 1,000 compared to the 2011 festival, and Joan and Bob Clifford, 2012 festival chairs thanked the volunteers for their remarkable contribution.
