Culinary Institute of America-trained veteran returns to balmy Gulf breezes
Thomas M. Leonard, a 30+ year veteran of the hospitality industry, has been named Clubhouse Manager at the Marco Island Yacht Club (MIYC), effective immediately. In his new role, he will be responsible to oversee all daily operations of the prestigious waterfront yacht club and provide leadership and guidance to a dynamic management team and staff.
Leonard returns to Marco Island after spending the past five years with Food & Company Caterers in East Hampton, NY, where his deep business and leadership acumen and keen taste for exceptional food elevated service standards, reduced costs and expanded profits. Before that, he spent several years at Montauk Yacht Club, Hotel, Resort and Marina in Montauk, NY as assistant General Manager and Director of Food and Beverage, where he led a staff of 80.
“Tom brings widespread expertise facilitating both simple and complex member functions and banquet events,” says Lisa Luft, MIYC Membership Director. “He will work closely with members in booking a limited number of large events and club functions to enhance our Club’s reputation for memorable weddings and private parties,” she continues.
The Club places significant emphasis on training and preparing staff to provide members with the best possible service, so Leonard’s experience in training and development as well as his entrepreneurial approach to deliver services shares the Club’s vision to deliver unsurpassed quality and outstanding service with an unwavering attention to detail and a true devotion to pleasing guests adds Ms. Luft.
Born in Mahopac, NY, Leonard is a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and a post-graduate of the exclusive, invitation-only Four Seasons Apprenticeship Program. He began his culinary career as an executive chef at the Woodway Country Club & Beach Club in Darien, CT and then moved to New York City with stretches as sous chef at The Rainbow Room and executive sous chef at the legendary Palace Hotel.
In 1985, Leonard moved to Marco Island to become director of food and beverage at the Radisson Suite Beach Resort. After that, he moved to Naples to own and operate two restaurants in Naples – the Third Street Café (now Campiello’s) in the downtown historic district and Basil’s Restaurant and Catering in King’s Lake Center. In 2004, Leonard joined Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club as Director of Food & Beverage.
Leonard has been an adjunct instructor in the hospitality program at Suffolk Community College and a food and beverage cost control instructor at Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology in Naples.
