Wednesday, September 26, 2012, marked the date as the first official meeting for the New Chapter of Toastmasters of Marco Island. Toastmasters Club is a driving force with a noble mission: To help more men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking – vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind. The group brings together all walks of life from high school youth to adults in various professions.
The meeting was held at Centennial Bank under the direction of Naples Toastmaster Chris Pritchard and wife, Robyn. The Marco Island Chapter was formed by parents Bronwyn & Craig Jones to further enrich their daughter, Lynn, in her educational horizons through the expertise of Toastmasters world- renowned training programs. They wanted to share this excellent portal with the entire community so Bronwyn and Craig took the extra effort to start a local chapter gain a new perspective and benefit in mastering the art of public speaking and communication.
New members in attendance were Bronwyn Jones, Craig Jones, Lynn Jones, Stuart Unsworth, Shelley Million, Sheryl Fox, and Kathleen Zehler. Enthusiasm for the club was positive. Each member shared their aspirations and goals in how Toastmasters would help them become more successful in life. One tidbit discussed at the meeting during the lecture on creative speaking is the fact that “Elkcam” is the word Mackle spelled backwards! (Many are familiar with the Mackle Brothers and their profound influence on the island.)
The group is open to the general public and all are welcome. Monthly meetings will be held at 7 PM at Centennial Bank, 615 E. Elkcam Circle, Marco Island. For more information call 239-777-2479.
