A new photographic perspective with Mother Nature is the subject of the Museum of the Everglades’ September exhibit entitled “The Everglades and the Goodman’s.” A reception to “Meet the Artist” Kayla Goodman is scheduled for Saturday, September 8, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served by the Friends of the Museum of the Everglades.

Kayla, age 12, was introduced to photography three years ago. She would accompany her father on adventures into the Everglades. Using her Mom’s point-and-shoot camera, she gained a sense of composition. A year later Kayla entered the Rookery Bay Annual Photography Contest where she won the best in the 18-and-under category with her photos of The Lubber Grasshopper and Reddish Egret.

Exotic birds await guests at Jungle Erv’s.

The Museum of the Everglades is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 5  PM and on Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM There is no admission charge but donations are welcome. For more information, telephone 239-695-0008.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there is a new exhibit at Jungle Erv’s Boardwalk on Dupont Island (located to the right just before the bridge entering Everglades City). As visitors pass through the gift shop entrance, they are immediately greeted by Red Velvet, Captain Jack Sparrow and several other friendly birds. The Boxwell family (shown here) from England enjoyed their visit to Everglades City with a tour around the boardwalk. Jungle Erv has lengthened this beautiful walkway to include additional paths as you stroll along the thick mangrove trees, and he extended the area further along the river to “Manatee Point.” Most visitors enjoy the experience of having their photo taken with an alligator and Christopher Stokes is always there to provide them with an educational show. Great place to take the kids and grandkids.
