Islander Ordained

Submitted  Joseph Robert Gates, the oldest son of eight children to James and Kimberly Gates, of Marco Island, was ordained a Transitional Deacon to the Roman Catholic Church on Saturday April 21, 2012. Joseph is a seminarian for the Diocese of Venice, Florida and studying to be a Roman Catholic Priest at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida. Joseph took the vows of Celibacy, Obedience and to Pray the Liturgy of Hours. The Gates’ family are members of San Marco Catholic Church, where Joseph’s siblings, John and James, also serve at mass. Tortoise Relocation

By Coastal Breeze News Staff  Recently several juvenile and young adult gopher tortoises were recently trapped in the Estates STRP project area. All were relocated out of the construction area to safer ground Environmentalist Specialist, Nancy Richie and Dr. Matt Finn, Huckleberry Finn Environmental Services. The bucket trap is a method to trap the tortoise as it moves in or out of the burrow. The buckets are checked hourly – 4 hours is the requirement. The Art of Marriage

Submitted On April 20 and 21, twenty couples gathered at Marco Presbyterian Church to participate in a FamilyLife video seminar entitled “The Art of Marriage”. The event featured expert speakers including the president of FamilyLife, Dennis Rainey, Dr. Paul David Tripp, Dr. Michael Easley, Dr. Voddie Baucham, Dr. Al Mohler along with ten other authors.
