We can already see that our winter residents are heading back up north, and I say that with a little sadness because all of the festivities we have been enjoying will slowly grind to a halt, all of the entertainment and performances, the fund raisers and dinners, the events at places like the Botanical Garden and the Conservancy, the art shows, etc.

Everything slows down to a crawl until the winter residents start coming back. This has been a fantastic year for everyone! We have been busier than we’ve seen in almost five years and our economy has improved a great deal because of it. Yes, many permanent residents are ready for a little rest, but by fall we are wishing there was something to do. To all of you who are leaving, we hope you have a wonderful, happy, healthy summer filled with good weather and lots of happiness. We’ll see you in the fall!

With much anticipation and excitement the Capri Paddlecraft Park has officially opened. The Ribbon Cutting was held on Friday, March 30th and was attended by people from FDEP, Rookery Bay, County Manager Leo Ochs, myself as County Commissioner and happy people from the County Parks & Recreation Dept. Rookery Bay/Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection financed the park and worked cooperatively with the County to plan the design for the park, which includes extra parking/overflow parking for boaters from the 951 Boat-ramp, a bathroom, a covered picnic shelter, and a lovely view of this gorgeous area of the Gulf of Mexico. The Kayakers were excitedly awaiting to launch their crafts and were happy to learn that the launching fee had been dropped from $8 to $4! It’s the first dedicated Paddlecraft Park in Collier County, and my guess is it will be utilized to its full extent. J. Robert was there to serenade us with island music as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

The delicious Fish Fry Fridays at San Marco Catholic Church have come to an end for this season, but what fun we’ve had while they were held. You never tasted such delicious fried fish! Yum! The worker bees of the K of C were always there volunteering while the rest of us enjoyed. My hat is off to all of you guys! Thanks for another delightful year. You make life fun!

Have you ever heard of Naples Senior Moving? I hadn’t until recently when they hosted a delightful party at the Island Gypsy, and what a party it was, which included great tasting food! I asked what their company did, and learned that they handle the organization and sorting of household furnishings and items while supervising a move to another location or while downsizing. They also work with financial advisors, estate planners and probate attorneys for liquidation of estates, providing research and appraisals, implementing home staging and advertising to sell or donate contents. Their tag line says Relocation Assistance for Older Adults. Thanks so much for a nice evening, ladies.

The Seafood Festival was outstanding again this year and even better than before, if that’s possible. Thanks Kiwanians and Rotarians! How nice it is to see everyone working together for a common cause – to help the children in our county. You set a good example for everyone, that by working together you can accomplish great things.
