Tara O’Neill is displaying a collection

Award-winning artist Tara O’Neill is displaying a collection of original oil paintings at the Marco Island Library throughout the month of September. The exhibition is part of a series sponsored by the Marco Island Center for the Arts (formerly Art League of Marco Island). Collier County Library is promoting library card sign up month with the slogan “ The Smartest Card: Get It, Use It, @ Your Library!”  It’s the smartest card for a lot of reasons:  for the access it provides to a wide spectrum of reliable information resources and for the value it provides to every card holder. Mark Your Calendars!

What has been sorely missing on Marco Island is a republican club. Thanks to a number of community leaders, the Caxambas Republican Club of Southwest Florida has become a reality. Since their first social held in July signing up approximately 45 members and the second social held in August, the number of members has steadily increased. Rescued Hound Dog Mothers Rescued Coyote Pups

Millie had been waiting to be adopted at the Humane Society Naples for 7 months. She was rescued from Labelle Animal Control by the staff the Humane Society Naples. Little did this 6-year-old Plott Hound know she would soon be helping four other rescued canines. And these would be no ordinary canines. This summer, Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens took in four coyote pups that had been found at the abandoned Belleview Biltmore Hotel in Clearwater, Florida. Marco Island Charter Middle School

In a letter from the Commissioner of Education, Gerard Robinson, Marco Island Charter Middle School was designated a High Performing Charter School in the State of Florida. Dr. Robinson thanked MICMS for continued participation in our mission to improve the quality of education for Florida’s students. MICMS opened the school year this past week with its largest enrollment in its thirteen year history.  Of the 405 students, 53% are males and 47% are females, 14% are classified as Gifted and 12% are classified as Learning Disabled, and 34% are Economically Needy. Drowning Prevention Strategic Planning Meeting

We had a great turnout during the FIRST Drowning Prevention Strategic Planning Meeting held in Collier County, as you can see on the picture we had great representation. The individuals, who attended the meeting yesterday, were committed, attentive, excited, passionate, and dedicated to saving lives from drowning. The Marco Island Police Department has received an increased amount of solicitation complaints regarding scams and fraudulent schemes that are being experienced by our local residents. Sergeant Linda Guerrero offers the following crime prevention advice: Scammers are constantly finding new ways to target victims, and unfortunately, Marco Island residents are being targeted. The Marco Island Police Department and City of Marco Island Environmentalist (Nancy Richie), in conjunction with our partners at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWCC) have created the following summary of coyote related information to educate Island residents and visitors. As development encroaches upon wildlife habitat, encounters between humans and wildlife – including coyotes – are bound to increase. Bill Miller

Bill Miller, an entrepreneur who owns two local businesses, is exceptionally active in the community of several different levels, as well as recently becoming a certified Auxiliary Police Officer for the Marco Island Police Department.  Bill donates approximately one hundred hours a month to the Police Department, in various roles including: Police Officer, administrative support, trainer, and mentor. Recently Bill went well above and beyond the normal call of duty for a volunteer with the Agency on two specific and very special projects. 3 Hours Yields over 40 Bags of Trash! Last Sunday’s City of Marco Island Beach Advisory Committee Beach Clean Up was a huge, or “hefty”, success! This success is due to the high number of participants from CJ’s on the Bay and the Boathouse Motel employees. The group swept the entire beach, starting at 8 am at both the South Beach Access and the Tigertail Beach Park, meeting in the middle at the Marriott Resort.
