At a time when most builders have downsized or gone out of business altogether, one small company has been building its company and is outperforming competitors by leaps and bounds. In fact, you can find at least FIVE locations on Marco Island where Andrew Hunter homes are to be constructed. So, what, or who, is behind the success of this local builder? Andy Delgado.
Many know Andy as a local police officer. Some may know Andy as a baseball coach and father. Others know Andy as a Premiere Plus real estate agent. So how did the transformation from cop to builder take place? Andy graduated from Barry University with a degree in Public Administration. He loved his career in law enforcement and although he retired from the police force in November, he is still available when needed as a reserve. He started in real estate buying and selling lots. One theme continued to ring out ‘ease the financial burden of the homeowner’.
It’s not Andy alone, Mike DiGioia, a builder by trade, convinced Andy to become a builder. “Mike is like a father to me. He financed my first model.” Andy continued, “Mike works as the Field General. He is on the construction site, handles the scheduling and such. I am more focused on the sales, budgeting and marketing aspects.”
So, what sets Andrew Hunter Homes apart? “Greed,” explained Andy. “Other companies are too greedy. Baseball player, Pete Rose said “you don’t have to hit a home run every time” and that is the philosophy we work by. In other words, we don’t have to have huge mark-ups and make a million dollars on every home. ‘Building Affordable Luxury’ is our motto. Our contractors are extreme professionals! Some worked in high-end Naples and Port Royal areas. Like everyone, they want to continue working throughout a slow economy and they’re very excited to showcase their work in this market.”
“We are a builder for the working man,” Andy described their typical customer as in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s with families. “We constantly hear, ‘I never thought we could afford to build on Marco.’ It’s not cheap to build here, impact fees range from $20,000-30,000.00, but our standard features like marble floors and 10’ Hurricane Impact sliding doors are considered upgrades at other companies making the bottom line of our homes more affordable.”
With five under contract and up to five more in the making, Andy and Mike will certainly be busy. “Efficiency is important to the process. We average around 100-120 days per build, about three to four months total with site preparation. Any contracts signed by August 30th will receive a swimming pool spill-over spa free!”
