Thank you to the kind gentleman who donated a check to “Miss Amy” after reading my Coastal Breeze column last edition. It was such a nice thing for you to do. My son’s church donated a turkey as well, so both gifts will be delivered this week. Thanks again.
Recently I read an article about the health of the citizens in Collier County. I found a few quotes that were so interesting I wanted to pass them along to you. “We enjoy living in one of the safest and healthiest communities in America”. “National studies rank Collier County as the generally healthiest county in Florida and we have the best cardiology services in Florida.” “Moreover, Collier County residents have the highest life expectancy in Florida and the fourth highest life expectancy in the United States”! Now, aren’t you glad you chose to live here?
Did you know that Collier County has a CodeRED System that is used to send critical communications, such as evacuation notices or any other vital information involving public safety? To receive notifications you must register at www.colliersheriff.org using the “Register for CodeRED” link under “How Do I?”. Your contact information remains private and will only be used for community notifications. When you see 866-419-5000 displayed on your caller ID, you will know the call is from the Sheriffs Office. If you would like to hear the last message delivered to your phone, simply dial the number on your caller ID. The City of Marco Island also subscribes to the CodeRed System. You can sign up at the City’s website: www.cityofmarcoisland.com, just click the button at the bottom of the page.
From what I’ve heard, tourism is doing better this year than it has in a number of years. Thank heavens for our winter residents as well. Unemployment improved and businesses have been able to climb out of the slump of recent years. Soon summer will be upon us and this wonderful season with the great weather will just be another happy memory.
