Kiwanis Terrific Kids on St. Patrick’s Parade. Submitted photos
The Kiwanis Club of Marco Island’s Thursday breakfast meeting was dedicated to honoring the Terrific Kids of Manatee Elementary and Tommie Barfield Elementary schools. Along with proud parents of the children, the principals of both school’s attending the meeting. T-shirts, certificates and magic pencils were given to this month’s group of outstanding children by Gayle Thawley and Gina Sisbarro. The 5th grader, Arellys Arce Perez and 3rd grader, Brissa Ruiz, from ME both hope to be veterinarians. Dominic Moller, 3rd grader at TBE, plans to be a sports star as he does well in football, basketball & baseball. Emily Boxma, class president of the 4th grade at TBE wants to be a professional singer while Natalie Mendoza, 5th grader at TBE has her eyes set on being a doctor. The teachers for all of the children described the recipients of the Terrific Kid award as caring, respectful and hardworking. Jonathan Frederic, a 4th grader at ME was unable to attend the award presentation.

Each month the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island presents the Terrific Kids award to our local elementary school children. Each teacher nominates the child of the month.
In the recent St. Patrick’s Day parade, 12 terrific kids marched with the Kiwanians waving Irish flags. Truly Terrific Kids, as a group, they proudly walked down Bald Eagle Drive giving out candy to the spectators. Pat Holmes remarked how patient and well behaved the group of children were before and during the parade.
Also, informative speakers visit with the club on the third and fourth meetings of each month. Last month, Jane Keister, demonstrated and provided information to the Club on Tai Chi. Did you know that Tai Chi improves your memory!

The Kiwanis Club of Marco Island meets every Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast at O’Donoghue’s’ Irish Bar & Grill, Royal Palm Plaza, corner of N. Collier and Bald Eagle Road, Marco Island.
