The Sailing Association of Marco Island (SAMI) held its Forty-First Annual Change of Watch Dinner, Thursday, January 20, 2010 at the Marco Island Yacht Club. Don Mills, a lifetime member, Past Commodore and Skipper of “Sea Plus”, was Master of Ceremonies along with Russ Rainy, also a Past Commodore, who gave the invocation and conducted the flag ceremony. A dinner at the MIYC preceded the formal program and installations of the 2011 Flag Officers.
Herman G. Diebler, 2010 Commodore thanked all of his 2010 outgoing Flag Officers for a job well done. He presented his bridge Vice Commodore Barbara Fleicher, Secretary Lindy Kowalczyk, Treasurer Bill Schroeder and Fleet Captain with a thank you gift for their services. Richard Escoffery, Rear Commodore, who is presently off sailing on his way to Puerto Rico was given a thank you and a parting gift from the Bridge. Commodore Diebler presented bouquets of roses to members of his staff to thank them for their participation in making 2010 a great year for SAMI. Helen Tateo, wife of the Founder of SAMI and First Commodore Vincent Tateo, was in attendance. Mr. Diebler introduced the incoming Commodore for 2011, Barbara Fleischer.
The new 2011 Commodore thanked everyone for coming and for supporting SAMI. She introduced her Flag Officers: Vice Commodore David Dumas, Rear Commodore Mary Lee Cale, Fleet Captain John Harkless, Secretary Neva Nolan, and Treasurer Bill Schroeder, who was unable to attend.
